About Wicked Thrift

ABOUT   WICKED   THRIFT

Wicked Thrift is a direct reflection of all that I am, all that I love, all that I have learned throughout my life and career in the music business for many years, from Nashville to New York City!  I believe that successful business is derived from a recipe that combines life experience, professionalism, ethical conduct, humility and hard work.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Where did Wicked come from? It must have started waaay back when... Growing up, I played every musical instrument imaginable and began writing melodies and lyrics on piano by the time I was 12.  While going through teenage phases with titles such as, "my Boy George phase", "my Rambo phase", "my Robin Hood phase" and, of course, "my Dokken phase", I became aware that all perfect things in this world included wardrobe changes and a lengthy guitar solo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The great thrift shops of Fairfield County and NYC helped me with the costuming for each act (thanks, Mom!), where old men's overcoats, army field jackets, purple petticoats, rhinestone baubles and black bowler hats were added to my closet as treasures.  All of these "music and movies" influences lead me to both NYU and SUNY Purchase as a Studio Composition major... and then, later, to Nashville as a songwriter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My professional career includes nearly 15yrs in the music industry in Nashville and New York City, where I worked as a member of management teams, who generally remain behind the scenes of concert tours and personal appearances, for some of the biggest names in rock, country and classical music.  Combined with a hardcore blue-collar upbringing in Greenwich, CT,  (my parents owned a home cleaning service), I acquired a knack for calculated risk-taking, entertainment value and daydreams of my own business.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wicked Thrift is my baby, rockin' on to its own funky beat.  Art, music, fashion and the big screen all hang together on Wicked's walls.  The aesthetic of Wicked Thrift reflects my rock n' roll history, life-long love of vintage, respect for the comfy basics, while tossing a nod to the refined classics.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHECK IT, PEOPLE!! All of Wicked Thrift's clothing, shoes, accessories and vintage clothing has PROUDLY been acquired through monthly trading with the public... that means Wicked is not a consignment shop or a donation thrift.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT!! Wicked does NOT acquire or "flip" items items from other sources, such as off-Cape shopping trips, estate sales, auctions or flea markets.  I find the personal interaction between my store and its monthly traders to be a more honest and fair way to achieve lower price points, creating a loyal customer base and friendlier atmosphere.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wicked Thrift receives 400-500 bags/boxes during "trade week", the first week of each month... and it continues to grow! Admittedly, it is an exorbitant amount of work to sort through it all and wrap-up the trade sessions, but the results are well worth it.  Wicked's monthly collection is absolutely fabulous and funky, every time!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bottom line...Wicked Thrift is a community place, not a "me" place.  Everyone matters, everyone has something fun to trade. The philosophy I follow,  my reminder to all...

THE PEOPLE MAKE THE PARTY...AND WICKED THRIFT HAS THE RIGHT GUEST LIST!
A Letter to Wicked Thrift's Traders
High-five, everyone!!

Thank you, thank you, to all of Wicked Thrift's loyal traders and shoppers, who have contributed to our concept this year.   Together, we've been on a wild ride!  This store is a freight train!

We've all worked hard to achieve the look and feel of Wicked Thrift's colorful mix of items. Sorting and organizing,  packing and dropping-off,  choosing items from your closets that are relevant and meaningful to Wicked Thrift's shoppers.

When I opened Wicked Thrift in April 2010, my first month of trading included 28 people who dropped-off clothing for trade.  (Yee haw! It was working!).

A year later, this past April 2011, the list of traders grew to 160 people, with around 300 bags/boxes dropped-off.  (Uh-oh... enter old box truck, to stash it all!).

This month, November 2011, Wicked Thrift closed-out it's trade season with a whopping list of 256 traders,  who dropped-of more than 500 bags, boxes and bins for consideration!  (That's crazy, dude ... it's time to grow some more!!).

From the beginning, I've described Wicked Thrift as a "we place".  So truly,  you each have contributed to it's very colorful and fabulous "unique" identity.

Thank you so very much, everyone. I could not be more grateful for your support as the concept continues to unfold itself.  Who knows what's in store, next year!

See you in April 2012, with your Spring/Summer drop-offs.
